Ray Haydon (b.1950 Aotearoa, New Zealand) is an artist and sculptor with a career spanning more than twenty years. Responding intuitively to space, the artist creates works of refinement and precision. His pieces retaining a lyricism and freedom of line that evoke a sense of movement and velocity, as well as a celebration of the technical process that goes into their making. This exhibition will celebrate twenty one years of the artist's representation with the gallery with a series of new wall-based ribbon works, sculptures in bronze and marine-grade stainless steel, continuing the artist's passion with movement, velocity and time.
Kate van der Drift (b.1985 Aotearoa, New Zealand) is an award winning contemporary photographer living and working in Aotearoa. Her practice is rooted in a deep engagement with ecological processes, human relationships to place, and the possibilities of photography as a form of attentive listening and collaborative storytelling. In Honey drawing, van der Drift asks what endures when things cannot remain, in an intimate series of experimental photographs. Working with honey, candle smoke, pūriri leaves and withered flowers, van der Drift continues her practice of embracing the unpredictable collaboration between unique materials and photographic process.
