About this Event

Muru is a statement of restitution and reciprocity. It describes the Māori cultural practice of restoring justice and balance when actions have brought about harm or disrepute.
Artists Sir Haare Williams, Charles Williams, Janine Williams and Nigel Borell collaborate in this exhibition to explore the concept of Muru in relation to the New Zealand Land Wars (1843 – 1872) the local history of Papakura and the greater Waikato region. The artists interweave diverse painting styles to bring to life a singular statement that is powerful about these events.
'Muru' is accompanied by a new large public mural by the four artists opening concurrently at the Papakura Library.
The mural opening will begin at 10:00 AM at Sir Edmund Hillary Library.
Followed by the exhibition opening at 11:00 AM at the Papakura Art Gallery.
The Papakura Art Gallery will be open until 2:00 PM.
This exhibition will be on display from 17 June – 29 July.

This is a FREE event. No registration is required.
