KODAMASpirits of trees. Human destinies.
The KODAMA project is a visual reflection on the parallels between the world of trees and human lives. Inspired by Japanese folklore, where “kodama” are spirits dwelling in ancient trees, this series of black-and-white photographs invites the viewer to contemplate nature as a living archive of fate, pain, wisdom, and time.
Trees, like people, carry traces of the past. Their roots reach deep into the earth, connecting the present with what has been. Their bodies are bent, broken, intertwined, just like our own paths. Branches resemble arms reaching toward the light or hiding in shadow. Every crack in the bark is like a scar. Every uprooted root system is a symbol of rupture, crisis, but also survival.
The photographs are presented in monochrome to strip away distraction and reveal the essence: texture, form, gesture. It is an aesthetic of memory, oblivion, and silence. The forest here is not merely a backdrop, but a counterpart in dialogue. It speaks to us without words. It looks into us through silhouettes, strength, and fracture.
Why trees?
Because they hold everything we fear losing in ourselves: resilience, the ability to heal, patience. Because in their solitude there is a deep kinship. Because in their existence there is a quiet acceptance of time.
KODAMA is an invitation to see nature not as decoration, but as a mirror. What if our souls live within trees? What if the forest remembers us better than we remember ourselves?
