Exhibition Opening: CHAMBA—Portraits of the Venezuelan People

CHAMBA is a photographic project dedicated to the labor and resistance of the Venezuelan people at a moment of intensified U.S. war drive in the region. Featuring photographs by Rome Arrieche, the exhibition presents unfiltered images taken across communes, rural regions, and cities in Venezuela, revealing the faces, sweat, joy, and determination of campesinos, fishers, commune members, and urban workers who sustain daily life through their labor. Spanning five regions of the country, CHAMBA situates intimate portraits and everyday moments within a broader history of struggle and resistance against U.S. aggression and sanctions that have profoundly impacted daily life. The title CHAMBA means work—the everyday effort, hustle, and dignity of working-class life. The exhibition affirms the urgent need to understand Venezuela beyond the narrative that attempts to portray Venezuelan people as terrorists and traffickers, especially amid escalating U.S. war threats and ongoing imperialist aggression.
