From September 12, 2025 – March 1, 2026The Kunsthalle München presents the largest solo exhibition of Miguel Chevalier ever shown in Europe. Since the 1980s, the artist has explored the computer as a creative medium, continually embracing new technologies—including artificial intelligence. At the same time, his work maintains an ongoing dialogue with art and cultural history. Though rooted in the digital, the sensory experience of his art in the physical space remains an essential element of Chevalier’s practice.
The exhibition brings together around 120 works from across all stages of the artist’s career, including several created specifically for the presentation at Kunsthalle München. On view are sculptures and drawings realized through 3D printing and robotics, as well as videos and installations. In these generative spatial experiences, algorithms continuously create new images that visitors can interact with through their movements.
A particular highlight is In Vitro Pixel Flowers: here, adults and children are invited to experiment with virtual blossoms, both online and on site, which then bloom in a digital greenhouse within the exhibition space. Complementing Chevalier’s works is a selection of natural history objects, ranging from intricate crystals to striking images of marine life. All this results in a multilayered experience that is at once physical and emotional—an invitation to observe, participate, and marvel.
