In the Spring of 2020 the National Portrait Gallery closed to undergo a transformation under the Inspiring People project which comprised a complete re-presentation of the Collection combined with a significant refurbishment of the building. The Gallery re-opened in June last year and has recently reintroduced guide-led tours for groups.

Whether visiting for the first or fiftieth time, this visit will provide an opportunity to learn more about the National Portrait Gallery and works in its Collection. The expert guide will lead our group around the new building providing behind-the-scenes insights and go through the galleries that span six centuries of portraiture. From global icons to local champions, national treasures to unsung heroes and hear stories about the sitters who feature in the world’s largest collection of portraits. After the tour you will have the opportunity to extend your visit to spend time on anything that has caught your eye or just explore.

Where to meet

We will meet at the new entrance on the North Façade of the Gallery which is named Ross Place. Please meet the LRAC Representative, Linda, at 1:15 pm with a view to a prompt start at 1:30. The visit will last for approximately 60 minutes.
