Maria do Carmo always accompanied and cherished her son. But her nature, and the professional responsibilities thus seriously compromised, demand her to protest; and action, even if beyond the advisable limits - which penalizes her even more before the System.
But it turns out to be chance, brought about by the risk of losing hers hard-won professional position, that offers her what, as a last and unexpected resource, appears to be a solution. Even if it is risky. But the System, will never explain itself.
