Not long now until EVRY1 opens its doors for the first time in Brisbane.Seven people tell true stories about things they survived.
Here’s who will be in the room.
Mel Greig
Thirteen years ago, a radio prank (Royal Prank Call) spiralled into global outrage and tragedy.
Mel took the brunt of the blame. Meanwhile, she has quietly rebuilt a life on the other side of public condemnation. She now works in mental health advocacy, cyber-bullying prevention, and media accountability. On this stage, there is no script or media spin; She instead shares her story in a way the news never did.
Marlena Katene
When people meet Marlena, assumptions arrive first. She uses a wheelchair. She doesn’t speak verbally. She has Cerebral Palsy.
What isn’t obvious is that she’s a journalist, author, and traveller.
Marlena communicates using an AAC device, and she’ll be using it live in the room to share her story, which includes interviewing The Pope, Robbie Williams, Ed Sheeran and many more, as well as being the first person with CP to base jump from the Kuala Lumpur tower. Her story isn’t designed for a caption or a clip. It only makes sense when you’re there to experience it.
Justin Geange
For 18 years, he was the Buck the Bronco mascot.
What the costume kept hidden was a human story that nearly went unheard.
Justin now works with suicide prevention charity MATES in Construction, helping people who build our cities while carrying weight of their own.
His story is about identity, loss and what it really means to look out for your mates long after the crowd stops cheering.
Kieran Mcleod
Keiran is a comedian who was diagnosed with a brain tumour, faced it head-on and survived.
Kieran brings humour, humanity and lived experience into a story about fear, resilience and continuing to see the bright side in life when it blindsides you.
Cara Szellemes
Cara grew up in a cult, survived bushfires, had a near-death experience, lost her partner and lived with anxiety, depression, PTSD and burnout.
She’s now an Amazon No.1 bestselling author, tech startup founder, artist, doula, marketer, and mother of three.
Her story is about the nonlinear work of staying alive, handling self doubt and self hated and eventually finding out who she actually was, and wanted to be.
Sara Alicia
Sara will step on the EVRY1 stage and tell an incredible story about her car crashing, flipping and exploding, and how that moment cracked her life open... but for the better.
Dani Stevens
For years Dani could have up to 20 seizures a day. Everything changed when she was partnered with a medical alert service dog, trained to sense an oncoming seizure before it happens. What they gave her was was agency, independence and the ability to move through the world again. Dani’s story isn’t framed as a miracle or a cure. It’s an honest account of living with epilepsy, adapting and finally finding freedom.
This is only $25.
If you want to feel something real again, be in the room.
