Recent Ofsted reports have repeatedly identified composing as one of the weakest areas of music teaching in schools. This practical, hands-on workshop will give you the confidence and tools to change that.
When children compose, they move beyond copying and begin to think for themselves — experimenting, making decisions and shaping their own musical ideas. This brings a powerful sense of ownership, purpose and satisfaction to their learning.
In this one-day Orff UK workshop, Nadja Kraft will guide you through practical, creative approaches to teaching composition through the Orff approach.
You will explore how to:
• support children to create their own musical ideas
• move from improvisation to structured composition
• use voice, movement and instruments creatively
• build confidence
• create inclusive musical experiences where every child can contribute
The Orff approach places improvisation and composition at the centre of music education, using accessible instruments and ensemble work so that every child can participate meaningfully.
🎵 Suitable for:
Primary teachers, music specialists, early years practitioners and anyone working musically with children aged 5–11.
🌊 Location:
Join us for a creative day of music-making by the sea in Leigh-on-Sea. Just 45 minutes on the train from London Fenchurch Street. After the workshop, you are warmly invited to an optional social gathering in historic Old Leigh.
