One of the main principles of the Stewardship of Life Institute at ULS is the idea that stewardship is part of our day-to-day decisions. It’s so much more than simply increasing the sum total of our monetary offerings (though this is a direct result of a person’s stewardship philosophy). Stewardship relates to understanding our place in the world and God’s
call for us to be caretakers of it from how we choose to spend our time to how we cultivate relationships with other people. Join us for a day of discovering how to consecrate the ordinary moments.
Speakers - The Rev. Dr. Mark Allan Powell is a renowned biblical
scholar, theologian, and author. He served as the
Professor of New Testament at Trinity Lutheran
Seminary in Columbus, Ohio, for over 25 years. He has
authored numerous books, including Introducing the
New Testament, Loving Jesus, and Giving to God: The
Bible’s Good News about Living a Generous Life. As an
ordained pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America (ELCA), Dr. Powell has combined his
academic expertise with pastoral care, contributing
significantly to theological education and the life of
the church.
The Rev. Louise N. Johnson took the role the Executive
for Vision at the ELCA churchwide organization after
serving as assistant to the presiding bishop/executive
for administration of the ELCA for three years. Prior to
her work with the ELCA, she served as a director for
LEAD, a leadership development nonprofit. Pastor
Johnson also served as the fourteenth president of
Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa,
where she led the seminary to its largest fundraising
and enrollment years in the history of the school.
