In this brand-new show to the Crooners Main Stage, we’ll explore the sonic push and pull that reflects the current state of the world today. From rock to jazz, Latin to old school funk and everything in between. Along the way we’ll find out why its music... music that rules the world.

Jay Young is a freelance performer and educator involved in a vast array of projects, working with national and international artists. Jay also served as faculty at MacPhail Center for The Arts; both locally and internationally, and McNally Smith College of Music. He has performed at the Guthrie Theater, Ordway Center, Illusion, and Penumbra Theatre, and has been a featured performer at Lincoln Center, Juilliard, Boston Symphony Hall, The Blue Note, Birdland, and as a member of Moore By Four, toured and played festivals in Umbria (Italy), Espoo (Finland), and Tejo (Portugal). He has shared the stage with Ray Brown, James Moody, Dizzy Gillespie, T.S. Monk, Grover Washington Jr., Dave Brubeck, Ron Carter, Buster Williams, Bobby Lyle, Eddie Daniels, the Minnesota Orchestra, Omaha Symphony, Phil Upchurch, Jennifer Holiday, Harry Connick Jr., Jay Leno, Paul Bollenbeck, Reverend Al Green, Bobby McFerrin, Jefferson Starship, Carole King, Ray Charles, Kevin Mahogany, Joe Lovano, Ernie Watts, Tim Ries, Marvin ‘Smitty’ Smith, and many others. Jay has lead the Lyric Factory with Ian since 2005, starting as a duo in 1998.
Ian Young is a freelance bassist, from a family immersed in music. He attended McNally Smith College of Music after starting out in the Minneapolis theater pits subbing for his dad in 1996 at age 12. That beginning lead to a love of theater pit work and 5 different local Broadway productions; from Once On This Island to Chicago, then on to the 20/25th National Tour of RENT and later TickTickBOOM. In the past, He has played with a wide range of ensembles from jazz to hip hop, R&B and gospel. Nationally, he’s toured/shared stages with acts for Wyclef Jean, Mint Condition, Morris Day and The Time, Solange Knowles, and The Sugarhill gang. His affiliations have included The New Congress, MPLS, Hustle Rose, Bruce Henry, Ginger Commodore, Yolande Bruce, Debbie Duncan and, of course, with dad, Jay Young.
