Ian Young is a freelance bassist, from a family immersed in music. He attended McNally Smith College of Music after starting out in the Minneapolis theater pits subbing for his dad in 1996 at age 12. That beginning lead to a love of theater pit work and 5 different local Broadway productions; from Once On This Island to Chicago, then on to the 20/25th National Tour of RENT and later TickTickBOOM. In the past, He has played with a wide range of ensembles from jazz to hip hop, R&B and gospel. Nationally, he’s toured/shared stages with acts for Wyclef Jean, Mint Condition, Morris Day and The Time, Solange Knowles, and The Sugarhill gang. His affiliations have included The New Congress, MPLS, Hustle Rose, Bruce Henry, Ginger Commodore, Yolande Bruce, Debbie Duncan and, of course, with dad, Jay Young.

“…the music exploded, showering the room with a joyful exuberance usually reserved for dance halls and gospel services. And no one had more fun than Jay Young” – Jazz Police
