Selichot opens the season that asks us to dig deep, crack our hearts open, and pour out our yearning. Join Hinenu for this evening of music and prayer featuring a live band of 15 Hinenu members! Combining traditional Selichot liturgy (Adon HaSelichot, Avinu Malkeinu) with contemporary secular music (The Klezmatics, Joanna Newsome, Sufjan Stevens, Dar Williams), the service opens channels to the heart work the new year calls for, using whatever tools we can find. Expect opportunities for quiet reflection, performance, and grounding ritual.
The Selichot service is traditionally the week before the New Year, after Shabbat on Saturday night. We begin with Havdallah to transition from Shabbat into the new week.
This service will be in person at Homewood Friends and online. All are welcome!
Online:
The online service will be live captioned.
Consider bringing grape juice/wine, flame, and something sweet smelling to move into the new week.
In person:
Homewood Friends is at 3107 N Charles Street. Following the service, join members of the band and community for an after party and chance to connect.
The service will begin at 8pm with Havdallah! Please feel welcome to bring a havdalah candle (in person or online!)
