It's a Tuesday @ 2 educational presentation!
Based on the book published in 2026, local expert and author, Nancy Hudson will share about the collection of letters Lillian wrote to George West that quickly turned into love letters during their courtship, leading to the marriage of 24-year-old Lillian and 63-year-old George on February 13th, 1909. We start with the arrival of Lillian Carlisle and her parents to the 2,000 acres her grandfather, Rev. Pitt Milner Callaway had acquired in 1857, that eventually became Callaway. The letters reveal a different Lillian Carlisle West than the one people recall today as a terrible driver and intimidating. These reveal how George mentored her and she grew into an influential and memorable community leader, and a woman operating business ventures that were left to men during her time.
This program is free and open to the public. It is geared for adults.
