Eveningtime Jazz | LEWIS WATSON: A JOHN COLTRANE CENTENARY CONCERT
About this Event
Wednesday 23rd September | 7:30pm
To commemorate the centenary of the birth of John Coltrane (b. 23 September 1926), Lewis Watson presents a concert featuring the music of the influential American saxophonist. From bebop to modal to free jazz, John Coltrane’s contribution to arts and culture cannot be underestimated.
Early-collaborations with Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and others led to Coltrane’s ‘Classic Quartet’ period, yielding his masterpiece A Love Supreme (Impulse! Records, 1964). Some six decades after his death, John Coltrane continues to inspire the musicians of today.
Join John Coltrane fan and scholar Lewis Watson (tenor saxophone), Mark Williams (guitar), Andy Champion (double bass) and John Bradford (drums) to celebrate the life and music of John William Coltrane (born one hundred years ago today, 23 September 1926).
