Evening of community singing with Ríomas

You are invited to an evening of community song and power with west coast artist, community song leader and activist, *Ríomas* !
Please join us for an immersive evening of music, ritual and community singing. We will sing together, build resilience and experence the healing power of the collective voice.
This will be Ríomas' first ever song circle in Canada. An evening not to be missed!
With musical support from local Toronto musician Will Klein (of Heartsong Gathering), who will provide percussion back up.
(RiYo for short, they/them), previously known as Shireen Amini, is a queer, trans masculine, Puerto Rican-Iranian artist, facilitator, and culture builder based in Portland, Oregon. Creating at the intersection of music, healing, and activism, they are guided by a belief that music, especially voice and rhythm, can reawaken in us what modern culture has forgotten: how to grieve, grow, and feel our power together. Ríomas crafts artful, participatory songs that invite realness, tenderness, joy, and transformative energy, drawing from roots, pop and folk textures, respectfully from Black and Afro-Latin lineages. Through their song circles and educational offerings, Ríomas empowers people to trust their musicality and engage music as a living practice for cultural healing and social change. They are the founder of Sing People Sing!, a queer and BIPOC-led community song circle series in Portland, author of the course Drum Song Reclamation, and leader of an emerging band collective bridging high-level musicianship with community participation. Their first community song album just released in March 2026.
Riomas' songs "function as medecine: simple but potent affirmations meant to be sung repeatedly until they begin to rewire the nervous system and reshape belief. [] And when sung with others, personal mantras become community declarations."
Their recent "album bridges the world of communal healing and contemporary listening. Rooted in pop, soul, R&B, hip-hop and Latin influences. [] Across its eight songs, the album moves through tenderness, playfulness, reverence, groove and power. Some songs hold grief with gentle care. Others pulse with rhythm and defiant joy."
Riomas' music is "a commitment to serving life through music, a reaffirmation that music can still serve its oldest purpose: "helping people remember who they are, where they come from, to heal what has been broken, and gather the courage to transform the world together."
This event is open to everyone. People who sing with us regularly, and new folks.
All voices are welcome, including new and shy singers. Absolutely no experience is required. Songs will be taught by call and response. While participation is encouraged, it is also okay to come and enjoy the music and vibes.

Doors open at 6:30pm, linger until 9:30pm | Singing from 7:00–9:00 PM
Tickets: Regular Adult $25-$50 | limited $15 tickets available for financial need | Children under 12 free!
We are offering a sliding scale for this event, between $25-$50, and as low as $15 if you need a financial accommodation. We want this event to be accessible to everyone.
We encourage you to pay what feels doable and generous so that Ríomas leaves feeling great about their time singing with us in Toronto.

- the event will be taking place in the meeting room which is located at the back of Friends House. Walk down the path to the left of the building.
- Street parking available.

About your hosts:
(TCS) is a collective of volunteer song leaders who love singing in community, in the oral tradition. We have been leading weekly song circles since March 2024 when our beloved mentors Steph and Paul (FiercelyOK) moved to Kingston. Our song leaders have developed through a 12-week "Grow Your Wings" course with Steph and Paul, song leader training with Mila Redwood, the Community Choir and Leadership Training and/or experience leading songs in a variety of community contexts.
