European Researchers' Night @ RCSI SIM
Join us for a night filled with exciting research discoveries at 26 York Street, RCSI University of Medicine & Health Sciences for this year’s European Researchers’ Night in collaboration with Trinity START (Start Talking About Research Today) program. ERN is an event that showcases the wonderful research ongoing in the community around you, all across Europe. Meet European researchers and learn about the cutting-edge projects they are working on. This year, we at RCSI will focus on advancements in cancer research and ways we can all be proactive in early detection. Dive into the world of science and innovation with a combination of public lectures, poster exhibition, and interactive sessions to demonstrate the processes involved in diagnosing cancer.

18:00 - 18:45: Our fantastic speakers on the night will be:
Dr Frank Moriarty – Frank is associate professor at the School of Ph*rm*cy and Biomolecular Sciences, RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences. His research focuses on appropriate use of medications and deprescribing (the process of reducing or stopping medicines that pose more harm than good).His presentation will focus on trends in the use of high-risk medications in Ireland, in particular medications used for pain and sedation. It will also discuss some of the possible reasons behind these changing patterns of prescribing, and what we can do to address these issues.
Ms Michelle O’Toole- Michelle is a Teacher Practitioner in RCSI School of Medicine and a Lecturer in Paramedicine in University College Cork. At European Research night in RCSI, Michelle will present the journey of HUGS@Home, from a 3 year Movember-funded research project, towards an emerging social enterprise spin out company, HUGS Community. During this brief presentation, she will highlight the aims of the programme in reducing first responder and family stress, the impact of the programme across Ireland and beyond and the future directions planned for this innovative initiative.
Professor Oran Kennedy-Oran is Associate Professor in Anatomy & Regenerative Medicine in RCSI - he is a Biomedical Engineer with a track record of research in the area of musculoskeletal medicine, biomaterials and drug-delivery. The Kennedy Lab is focused on improving our understanding of how diseases like osteoporosis and osteoarthritis work, and how we can develop new ways to treat them via innovation in biomaterials and drug-delivery technologies.
18:45 – 20:30pm:
Interactive Health Sciences Workshops: All are welcome to visit RCSI SIM Centre for Simulation Education & Research where healthcare professionals will be on hand to provide demonstrations and information on the screening processes and the steps involved following a diagnosis. Learn self-assessment techniques from our expert tutors to help identify any changes early and demystify the screening processes. His topic will be Skeletal Health - Movement is Medicine.
