About this Event
Edith Wharton has enjoyed a recent resurgence in popularity. Once a member of the gilded elite, she was a critic of society and her perspective was communicated in her novels. However, just as Lady Whistledown of Bridgerton critiques society but still appreciates rules of etiquette – so did Edith.
Etiquette was still important to Edith’s Gilded Age, just as it is important to the world of Bridgerton and is also important to the world in which we inhabit.
In the coming months, Read Far and Wide is sponsoring a series of gatherings – “Etiquette with Edith.”
Certified etiquette trainer and voracious reader, Amy Meyers of Mrs. Meyers Etiquette, will be leading discussions and sharing her insight on the benefits of etiquette.
Rules of etiquette are often seen as tools to separate and exclude groups. However, Amy will teach us how principles of etiquette can empower us, build our confidence in personal and business situations, and provide a sense of comfort and inclusion.
Through iconic literary characters such as Mr. Collins, Miranda Priestly, Bridget Jones and others, participants will learn how to have confidence in all social situations: professional, social and personal relationships.
Topics for each session will include:
Tuesday, September 24th: History of Etiquette (inspired by Edith Wharton)
Wednesday, October 23rd: Social Etiquette (inspired by Jane Austen)
Wednesday, November 6th: Professional Etiquette (inspired by Miranda Priestly)
Monday, January 6th: Relationship Etiquette (inspired by Bridget Jones)
