A training for mental health professionals to enhance self-awareness and skill around supporting grieving clients in the clinical setting.
About this Event

Grief counseling sits at one of the most ethically complicated intersections in clinical practice. Confidentiality can outlive the client. Your own emotions become part of the room. And the "right" answer often depends on culture, spirituality, and a client's individual relationship to loss. This training gives you a practical decision-making framework for those gray areas, grounded in professional competence, self-awareness, and cultural humility, while also digging into the parts of grief work that are evolving fast enough to catch even experienced clinicians off guard.

Bring your questions. We'll bring answers to things like:

  • Grief Tech: AI chatbots trained on deceased loved ones, digital legacy accounts, griefbots. What happens to mourning when the dead don't fully disappear?
  • Prolonged Grief Disorder, now its own diagnosis. What does that mean for how we assess and treat?
  • When does grief cross the line into something that warrants clinical intervention?
  • What are the current gaps in grief care experienced by the bereaved?
  • How do culture and spirituality reshape what "healthy" grief even looks like?
  • Personal Loss: how do you hold space for a grieving client while you're carrying grief of your own?

This is an in-person session built for real clinical practice, not just theory, but the actual dilemmas you'll face in the room.

Presenter: Ali Drescher, MA, LPC, Fellow in Thanatology: Death, Dying & Bereavement
