Learning Objectives
Info: At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to apply Idaho-specific laws and professional ethical standards related to consent, assent, and confidentiality when counseling children and adolescents; differentiate ethical responsibilities from legal obligations and utilize a structured decision-making framework to determine when disclosure to parents, guardians, or systems is required, permitted, or contraindicated; implement developmentally appropriate assent and confidentiality practices that strengthen the therapeutic alliance and promote client engagement; analyze common ethical dilemmas in child and adolescent practice—including parental access to records, custody disputes, self-harm disclosures, and school collaboration—and select ethically and legally defensible responses; and utilize documentation strategies and clinical language that support ethical decision-making, protect client welfare, and reduce professional risk.
