Ethical Specification of Indigenous Design - CPD Event

Join us in person or online for an insightful evening exploring the ethical integration of First Nations art in modern architecture.
Hosted by Decor Systems and Blaklash, this CPD-certified event will feature a panel of renowned Indigenous artists—Rachel Sara, Keisha Leon, Jenna Lee, and Toby Bishop—who will share their perspectives. Through a rich discussion, we’ll delve into the legal and ethical obligations of specifying Indigenous art in architectural projects, including how to respect moral rights and intellectual property. The panel will also explore the importance of ongoing engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities throughout the project lifecycle.

This event will address several performance criteria from the National Standard of Competency for Architects (2021), including:

• PC 8 – Culturally responsive and meaningful engagement processes that respect the importance of Country.
• PC 15 – Legal and ethical obligations related to copyright, moral rights, authorship of cultural knowledge, and intellectual property.
• PC 17 – Understanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aspirations for caring for Country and how this informs design.
• PC 27 – Embedding Indigenous knowledge into the conceptual design process in a meaningful and respectful way.
• P50 – Continuing engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples throughout all project stages.
