Celebrated jazz pianist Ethan Ostrow brings his new group The Outside In to The Back Room for the first time!The Outside In isn’t your grandma’s modern jazz band. Rocking out since 2022; soaring melodies, passionate solos, head-banging grooves, intimate and reflective ballads all define the music, largely composed by pianist Ethan Ostrow . Featuring some of the most exciting up-and-coming musicians in New York, the band is quickly establishing themselves with their deep, lush, and powerful sound.

Ethan Ostrow is a New York-based pianist, composer, and teacher from Berkeley, CA. He has headlined and performed at some of the Bay Area’s finest venues including Yoshi’s, The Fox Theater, The Freight & Salvage, Maybeck Studio, and more. In NYC, Ethan has had the opportunity to perform at iconic venues such as Birdland Jazz Club, Rockwood Music Hall, Chelsea Table & Stage, and more.
Ethan strives for an intense, lush sound and demonstrates deep personal expression. As much as his bands like to burn down the house, Ethan's compositions are also thoughtful and introspective. Having lled a double-life as an actor for many years, he understands the power of storytelling, and brings it to his music every performance. Ethan frequently combines his love of music with his passion for cancer charity work, and is proud to have raised over $55,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through his "Concert for a Cure" series.
Ethan is currently a student at the Manhattan School of Music, being mentored by Stefon Harris, Dayna Stephens, Phil Markowitz, Jaleel Shaw, and Jeremy Manasia. He has also studied with Bay Area legend Susan Muscarella, and spent a year in Minneapolis playing with and learning from Phil Hey (Dewey Redman) and Dean Sorenson (Glenn Miller Orchestra, Frank Sinatra).
Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door general admission; $15 for students with ID. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available at the link below, or you may purchase your tickets at the door the night of the show.
Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash or Venmo only at the door.
The Back Room is an all-ages, BYOB (for those 21+) space, dedicated to (mostly) acoustic music of all kinds. You are welcome to bring your own food and adult beverages with no additional corkage fee.
