THE KISMET PROJECT:
Onur will bring a group of talented mixed humans and cross the borders with music and soul. Dynamic and inspiring melting pot of musical flavours, drawing elements from the music of the Turkish region and “Balkan” peninsula - one can hear the parallels between Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and East European forms with Latin American & French-Gypsy jazz inspired modal improvisations.
Estudiantina of Melbourne is a Melbourne-based ensemble dedicated to preserving and reimagining traditional Greek music, particularly Smyrneika and Rebetiko, while incorporating influences from Turkish, Jewish, and Armenian musical traditions. Formed in early 2024, the group combines a diverse range of instruments such as bouzouki, oud, violin, qanun, accordion, and guitar, bringing a rich, immersive sound to their performances. Beyond entertainment, they aim to act as cultural ambassadors, highlighting the musical heritage of the Greek diaspora and connecting it with contemporary audiences. They have released a debut EP and an album, Journey to Rebetika, and regularly perform at concerts and festivals across Melbourne and Australia, offering experiences that are both culturally significant and engaging, making them particularly suited for events that celebrate multiculturalism, heritage, and live music.
