Tanya Brakeman is an intimacy communication guide for people in intimate relationships and those who want to be.

With the tools of Essential Relating, a set of deep relating skills developed over that last 10 years, Tanya helps people who are craving deeper intimacy and stronger connection in their relationships to have the really uncomfortable, but vital conversations for addressing what isn't working between them so they can grow stronger through the difficulty, rather than allowing their fears and resentments to push each other away.

In this Session Practice: Decoding an Insult

At the heart of every upset is some kind of an insult. Someone feels they have been wronged or hurt.

This session will teach you a tool called Insult - Injury - Invitation. This is a tool that allows you to find the core principle or value at the heart of any argument or conflict where you or another has felt insulted or minimized in some way. Once you have the core principle or value detected, you have a new clear direction from which to move towards resolution.

1. You will find an insult that you are currently or have recently been harboring with someone with whom the insult is causing separation or distance.
2. You will do the Insult - Injury - Invitation exercise that allows you to reveal the damaged experience you are wishing to restore.
3. You will learn how to speak directly from the core principle you discovered in the exercise rather than your complaints and story about the issue.
4. You will learn the model for Interested - Available - Willing to form an invitation for yourself or the other person that allows you to bridge the separation and restore connection.
