About this Event

Essence Festival, DSE Jamaica, and HOV have partnered to present an exclusive premiere of the feature film: Threads of Us.

In Kingston, Jamaica, where dreams are hard to hold onto, factory worker Malcolm and seamstress Danielle find love during quiet bus rides. When Malcolm is accused of a crime, their world shatters. As Danielle digs for the truth, she faces an impossible choice: stay loyal to those she trust, or stand up against the injustice threatening to tear her and Malcolm apart.

Directed by Mykal Cushnie and written by Donisha Prendergast, Threads of Us tells a contemporary Jamaican story of love, resilience, family, work, and hope through the lives of two young people navigating growth and independence. While rooted in the everyday realities of Kingston, the film explores universal themes that resonate across the Caribbean and throughout the African diaspora.

The film will premiere on July 5, 2026, at 10:45 a.m. at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Centre, with a panel discussion to follow.

We look forward to seeing you there!
