INFORMATION REGARDING THE ESCOBEDO LECTURE SERIES

This lecture is made possible by the generosity of Rubén M. and Verónica Salazar Escobedo, H.O.M.I.

Since the first evangelization in the Americas, the question of people's right to dignity has been central. Democratic societies have responded with the Church's Social Doctrine and UN declarations on human rights. The Second Vatican Council and Latin American bishops have emphasized democracy, peace, and justice. However, recent dictatorships in the Global South have led to severe human rights violations. This presentation explores Latin American Catholicism's response to these injustices, the global challenges posed by economic and environmental crises, and Pope Francis’s vision for addressing them.
