Esaie Hounmenou is a guitarist and composer from Porto-Novo whose music bridges
contemporary jazz with the rich rhythmic traditions of West Africa. Deeply influenced by
the sounds of his homeland, he developed an early connection to music as a form of
storytelling, expression, and cultural identity.
After studying music in Paris for five years, Esaie continued his artistic and academic
journey at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he has further refined his voice as
both a performer and composer. Immersed in an international community of musicians,
he continues to explore innovative collaborations and expand the boundaries of his
sound.
Esaie’s playing is marked by expressive improvisation, lyrical sensitivity, and the vibrant
grooves of Beninese and West African musical traditions. His work reflects themes of
resilience, heritage, and human connection, creating a musical language that is both
deeply personal and globally resonant.
Currently based in Boston, Esaie is developing original projects that celebrate the
dialogue between African traditional music and modern jazz. Whether performing solo
or with an ensemble, he brings a soulful and authentic presence to the stage, inviting
audiences into a musical experience rooted in culture, creativity, and emotional depth.
