Program Description:
The current 2021 Commercial Michigan Codes (Building, Rehab, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical and Energy) have been codified by the State of Michigan and are now legislatively applicable to our new (and rehab) commercial construction projects. Unfortunately, there are numerous code provision ‘errors and/or inconsistencies’ that were included within the 2021 adoptions that should have been corrected prior to that adoption. Due to this circumstance and no additional formal written guidance provided from the state to correct the issues (i.e., issuance of an errata document, etc.), the local design and code enforcement community (i.e., Architects, Engineers, Building Officials, Plan Reviewers, Building Inspectors, etc.) need to navigate these provisions collaboratively and attempt to resolve these issues, when applicable, on a project-by-project basis. This class will cover the state’s rule making process, identify the current known errors and inconsistencies in the 2021 Michigan Codes, seek audience participation/discussion, and attempt to develop possible solutions to help our local design and enforcement communities apply these code provisions in a more confident manner.
