Exciting double-bill with two exceptional bands: MAQUINA. and error met on tour while both supporting A Place to Bury Strangers and decided they need to do this again together.
The dynamic trio MAQUINA. from Lisbon made a significant impact on the Portuguese music scene with the release of their debut album ‘Dirty Tracks for Clubbing’. With their energetic performances that blend dance culture with heavy-hook songcraft, João (guitar), Tomás (bass), and Halison (drum+vox), quickly gained a reputation. Drawing inspiration from repetition/minimalism-centered styles such as Krautrock and Industrial Techno, MAQUINA. fearlessly explores the boundaries of these genres by incorporating elements of rock and electronic music into their distinctive sound. A mix of pulsating beats, scuzzy bass riffs, and noisy guitars, challenging norms and pushing the limits of conventional music. One of the standout features of MAQUINA.'s live performances is their commitment to authenticity and musicality. Unlike many electronic acts that heavily rely on machines and programmed beats, this trio challenges convention by excluding the use of machines and clicks during their concerts. Instead, they embrace the raw power of live instruments, providing an electrifying experience that resonates with the audience on a deeper level.
Berlin band error are one of the most compelling new acts in the contemporary underground scene. They bring an unadulterated crassness to the table that hasn't been seen in a while, combining bittersweet noise-pop with post-punk elements. In 2023 they released their debut album‘ Self Destruct ‘ where they have managed to capture the raw energy of a packed concert. The mastering was done by Frederic Kevorkian who previously worked for The White Stripes, Beyonce, Iggy Pop and many more.
The band was founded by Leonard Kaage, who is the guitar player and producer of The Underground Youth and worked with bands like The Blue Angel Lounge, Tess Parks & Anton Newcombe. He was later on joined by Nick Mangione on Bass and Olga Karatzioti-B. (Art Brut/ Gloria de Oliveira) on guitar.
Lyrically, Kaage often reflects on life in modern western society and turns anger into high-energy rock songs. The songs are not pure rage but have an immense emotional depth and vulnerability to them that sets them aside from any other run-of-the-mill 'loud band'. There is a frustration with ones surroundings and injustices as well as a lust and love for life, people and making music. The live shows of both bands are incredibly energetic, a must-catch!
