About this Event
The Erosion and Sediment Management in the National Capital Region Conference brings together practitioners, researchers, regulators, and decision-makers for a focused one-day exchange on the science and practice of erosion and sediment management in a changing climate.
The conference will highlight current research, applied design approaches, construction practices, and monitoring outcomes relevant to the unique physiographic, hydrologic, and regulatory contexts of the National Capital Region. Emphasis will be placed on evidence-based solutions, including nature-based and hybrid approaches, that effectively manage erosion and sediment while supporting resilient landscapes, infrastructure, and aquatic systems.
Through technical presentations and case studies, the conference aims to bridge science and practice, share lessons learned from the field, and foster dialogue on performance, risk, and long-term resilience. Topics will span watershed-scale processes, site-scale erosion and sediment control, stream and shoreline stabilization, stormwater integration, construction considerations, and monitoring and adaptive management.
Presented by CAN-IECA, this inaugural regional conference is intended to support professional knowledge transfer, strengthen cross-disciplinary collaboration, and advance best practices in erosion and sediment management across the National Capital Region.
