Ernst Schraube will host the second lecture of Den Alternative Forelæsningsrække E25 with the title: The Worldlessness of ChatGPT - Learning, the Politics of Generative AI, and why Psychology of Technology Matters. Technologies have been a part of human society from the very beginning. We create them, and with them, we recreate ourselves and our world. The lecture focuses on the psychology of technology, showing the internal relationship between psyche, téchne, and society.
It also discusses the difficulty of psychology to engage with the study of technology and why studying technology requires a fundamental renewal of psychological theory, methodology, and research practice. Based on this framework, the lecture explores the significance of AI chatbots in human learning. It describes the politics of generative AI and how the generated responses constitute a new form of text that is disconnected from the world. Finally, it asks to what extent wordless text can facilitate learning as a worlding practice.

WHAT IS “DEN ALTERNATIVE FORELÆSNINGSRÆKKE”?
In recent years, the psychology program at the University of Copenhagen has been criticized for what many students perceive as a decline of academic perspectives in the program. The Alternative Lecture Series offers some of the perspectives that are in demand.
This is the eighth semester that we are hosting “Den Alternative Forelæsningsrække” - The Alternative Lecture Series. We continue to see a need to arrange alternative lectures with perspectives that could be represented by teachers and in the curriculum, but still are not. We therefore feel that it is still at least as relevant as when it started in the spring of 2022!
The events are open to everyone and do not require any preparatory reading. They are designed to encourage discussion and conversation between researchers and participants.
The lecture with Ernst Schraube will be in English.
