Since 2017, Michael Michael Motorcycle has been releasing a steady stream of Bay Area ear worm weirdness out into the world. The San Francisco guitar duo of Michael Pannone and Jesse Cobb combos with the mighty rhythm section of Marin County’s Jono Clay and Greg Moye to deliver a unique brand of harmony focused guitar driven music that draws from genres like indie rock, folk, Americana, dream pop and good ole rock and roll.
*Composer for commercials by day, Nyles Lannon is a hard-working, hustling music chameleon. His music has been in hundreds of commercials, countless TV shows, and thousands of YouTube videos, but you would likely never know it was him. And that’s the way he likes it. But you may have seen him around town playing with his band Nyte Skye.
A San Rafael native, Lannon has been in various bands over the years, but this one is special: it features his 17 year old son Skye on drums.
The two have been playing music together since Skye was 6 and started showing music interest, first in piano and synths, and then drums. The pair would play Kinks covers as a duo to Sunday crowds around the Bay, at outdoor venues and farmers markets. By age 10, Skye was showing considerable skill at drums, playing with various bands, filling in for adult drummers when they needed someone live, recording on albums and commercials.
Nyte Skye is what you might call a musical “pandemic baby.” For the first time, Nyles and Skye took some of their ideas from jams and demos and had time to shape their sound and experiment. Skye flourished in the studio, and soon built his own drum studio in the attic. As the two tinkered away for nearly a year, a district sound emerged: something like Bryan Ferry’s Roxy Music meets the Jesus and Mary Chain and early Cure, cooked up in a dreamy, psychedelic, New Wave stew.
