The final Jean's Jazz concert celebrates the music of Clifford Brown's "Joy Spring" on Saturday, April 25 at 7 p.m. at the Racine Theatre Guild.
In 1954, Clifford Brown composed a piece in honor of his new wife, Emma LaRue Anderson, whom he called his “joy spring.” Brown was known as the most brilliant trumpet player of his generation, an original and memorable composer, a dynamic stage presence and one of the authentic legends of modern jazz. His lyricism, clarity of sound, and grace of technique was captured in his performances until his untimely death at the age of 25. Brown left behind one of the most impressive and lasting bodies of work, and it continues to hold sway on musicians decades after his passing.
Eric Jacobson is an accomplished jazz trumpeter known for his soulful playing and creative musical expression. His commitment to pushing boundaries and creating engaging musical experiences solidifies his reputation as a standout talent in the jazz world.
In 2001, Joe Mooney created the Jean’s Jazz Series in memory of his wife, Jean, who passed away from ovarian cancer. Since then, over 25,000 people have attended our concerts, grossing over $140,000 to benefit the Racine Theatre Guild. Jean’s love of the Theatre Guild and her love of Jazz inspired a series that has truly enriched the community.
