Erasure Poetry Workshop

What is erasure poetry? Erasure Poetry is a form of found poetry where a writer takes an existing text or source materials, such as pages of a book, newspaper clippings, articles or government documents, and removes or blocks out most of the words, leaving only a few words to form a completely new poem

Anyone can make erasure poetry! No writing experience or skill is required. Just use what is on the page and find a new meaning hidden in the words! We will provide all the materials you need but feel free to bring your own source material or supplies.

How can poetry resist LGBTQ+ erasure?

The power of erasure poetry is that you can change what the source material says to the reader. You can take anti-LGBTQ+ material and turn it into an affirming poetry about the beauty of the queer experience. It is taking control of a harmful narrative and turning hate into love, censorship into expression.

Submit your poem to our community anthology!

After or during the workshop, we invite everyone who created a poem to submit their work to our community anthology! Your poem can follow the prompts or you use do your own idea! The poems will be compiled into a booklet that will be available in both printed and digital format.

You do not have to attend the workshop to submit your poetry! You are welcome to submit more than one poem but depending on the volume of poems we receive, we may limit one per person to be included in the final anthology.
