ERASURE POETRY (also called blackout poetry): a form of “found poetry” where you take an existing text (i.e. a newspaper, book page, or document) and “erase” or black out most of the words, leaving only a selection of words that form a brand new, original poem, often revealing new meanings or hidden messages. It’s a creative act of redaction, using art (markers, paint) to obscure text, transforming a source into a fresh work that can be personal or purely artistic.
So bring YOUR written medium or go through some of our books on site to find the page that resonates with you and begin YOUR art project.
It’s also HAPPINESS OPEN STUDIO time, so please feel free to bring along your current art project (drawing, painting, writing, beading, sewing, lyrics, whittling, you name it ... except anything that will get messy) & art supplies and use the energy of the community to uplift your creative process.
This is a space for community connection, inspiration, creative expression and fun!
*** Please note that in 2026, the studio space is a “bring your own art supplies” space. Very limited art supply resources may be on site ***
