Have you ever wondered about the stories behind some of the beautiful memorials in Albany Rural Cemetery? Among them are several works by Erastus Dow Palmer including the acclaimed Angel of the Sepulchre created by the artist who rose to international fame as one of the 19th century’s leading sculptors.
Dr. Lynn Radlick will introduce Palmer known as “the Sculptor of this City“ and explore his enduring legacy within Albany Rural Cemetery. Through a blend of historical and contemporary images Dr. Radlick will highlight Palmer’s artistry the memorials he designed within the cemetery and the remarkable people they commemorate.
Join Dr. Radlick for an illustrated talk exploring Palmer’s life and art — from his early years as a carpenter to his celebrated works in marble.
Note: This event will also mark the unveiling of Dr. Radlick’s recently completed book Erastus Dow Palmer. Copies of this new Friends of Albany Rural Cemetery book will be available for purchase and the author will be on hand for signing following the talk.
