Tanja Malan and Corné van Eck’s joint exhibition is called Equilibrium. Tanja Malan states that her paintings of flowers & plants is a celebration of nature and its ability to provide her with great awe and gratitude towards her Creator. It brings about peace and balance in her life i.e. equilibrium. Vibrant colours, intricate patterns, bold flowers and delicate blooms always inspire her. Her works reflect exactly that. By combining realism and abstraction, she strives to evoke a sense of curiosity in the viewers, inviting and challenging them to also contemplate the delicate balance between realism and abstraction in our lives.
Corné van Eck on the other hand portrays scenes as sacred places – a calm dreamworld of landscapes. These depict her relation to and with the cosmos, celebrating light as a positive sense of being and our connection to the earth as a place of worship, the meditation on life, death and loss. Corné has a personal, intimate, intuitive and revived relationship with the earth. For her, the landscape has always been a source of inspiration and comfort - it offers quietude. Through the creative process of painting landscapes, layer upon layer, she transforms the experience of loss by finding a calm and balanced state of mind.
