About this Event
The Equal Justice Awards Reception is HBA-DC's annual gala where we recognize individuals and organizations that have made extraordinary contributions to achieving equal justice in the District of Columbia.
Net proceeds from the event allow the HBA-DC to continue serving its members through professional development events, mentoring programs, judicial and other endorsements, job referrals, policy advocacy, and supporting the community through legal clinics, education and many other activities.

Horacio Gutierrez
Senior Executive Vice President, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer
The Walt Disney Company
Horacio Gutierrez serves as the chief legal officer of The Walt Disney Company, overseeing its team of attorneys responsible for all aspects of Disney’s legal affairs around the world, and acting as a strategic advisor to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
Before joining Disney in February 2022, Gutierrez most recently served as Head of Global Affairs and Chief Legal Officer for Spotify, where he led a global, multi-disciplinary team responsible for the company’s work in areas including industry relations, content partnerships, public policy, and trust & safety. Prior to joining Spotify, Gutierrez was Corporate Vice President and General Counsel for Microsoft, overseeing the company’s legal affairs around the world, including support of the complete lifecycle of Microsoft’s products and services.

Judge Ricardo M. Urbina Lifetime Achievement Award:
Honors a member of DC legal profession with 20+ years of service and outstanding contributions to the Hispanic community in the areas of equality, fairness, and social justice.
Hugh A. Johnson, Jr. Memorial Award (2 Awards - organization and individual):
Recognizes a DC area organization and an individual with unwavering commitment to and achievement of the principles of equality, cultural respect, and social justice.
Hispanic Attorney of the Year Award:
Recognizes an attorney with 10-20 years legal experience and outstanding contributions to the legal profession, including Hispanic affinity bar associations.
Rising Star Award:
Recognizes an attorney with 10 years or less legal experience and outstanding contributions to the legal profession, including Hispanic affinity bar associations.
