About this Event

Please join us for a special organ recital by Stephen Rapp, former Interim Organist and Music Director of The Church of the Epiphany and a consultant for the church’s Bigelow Opus 44 organ.

Rapp played an important role in the development of the instrument and returns to Epiphany to perform on the organ he helped bring to completion.
Admission is free. A freewill offering will be received to support the Church's music ministry. The Church of the Epiphany is wheelchair accessible.


About Stephen Rapp

Stephen Rapp, “Sterling performance” (New York Times) has performed organ recitals in Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden and Bolivia as well as in much of the United States. He has performed as organ and harpsichord concerto soloist with the New Haven Symphony, the American Classical Orchestra, ARTEK, the Lake Placid Sinfonietta and the Yale Camerata.

Stephen Rapp ended his full time career as a church musician in January 2024 as Interim Organist and Music Director for two years at The Church of the Epiphany. Previously he served as Music Director of Episcopal parishes at St. Paul’s on the Green, Norwalk, Connecticut and Christ’s Church, Rye, New York as well as St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stamford, Connecticut and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in the Bronx’s Little Italy. For eight years he was Assistant Organist at St. Patrick’s Cathedral playing six days a week for Masses broadcast on Sirius XM Radio. 
Stephen continues substituting in New York area churches and playing recitals, chamber music and choral music concerts. He now regularly accompanies the Choir of the Church of Transfiguration (Little Church around the Corner) for liturgies and concerts. This season he has played solo organ recitals at the Church of St. Ignatius of Antioch and the Church of the Transfiguration as well as performing in concerts with St. John Festival Chorus and Orchestra in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania.

Stephen was consultant for the Bigelow Opus 44 organ at The Church of the Epiphany as well at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stamford, and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in the Bronx.

Custom-built for the Church in 2025, the Bigelow Opus 44 features mechanical key and pedal action, three manuals, 35 voices, and 40 ranks, offering exceptional clarity and color across a wide range of repertoire.
