Hitting Gold With What Was Supposed to Be the Last Album

Epik High was formed in 2001 in Seoul's underground hip-hop scene. The group released its first album, Map of the Human Soul, in 2003 with all of the tracks written by the members. Although Epik High started to see success with the group's second album, High Society, the third album was intended to be the final album. Swan Songs turned out to be a mainstream hit, so the group continued with its music career. FIFA '07 featured one of the title tracks, Fly, in the video game. Due to high demand for remakes of Fly and Paris, Epik High released a CD sampler in Japan. Epik High's Remapping the Human Soul was South Korea's third top-selling album in 2007. It won Album of the Year at MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards), Best Hip Hop Album at the Korean Music Awards and Best Album at the Seoul Music Awards. Epik High left Woollim Entertainment in 2009 and started an independent label called Map the Soul. After a few album releases, Mithra and DJ Tukutz served their mandatory military service in the South Korean army. Tablo didn't need to serve in the military because he's a Canadian citizen. Upon its return in 2012, the trio signed with YG Entertainment. Successful albums Epik High released under YG Entertainment include 99, Shoebox and We've Done Something Wonderful. Epik High left YG Entertainment in 2018 and signed with William Morris Endeavor in 2019. Sleepless in __________, released in March 2019, ranked No. 8 on the Gaon Music Chart and No. 6 on the US World Albums Chart. Lovedrunk topped the Gaon Music Chart and the Billboard K-pop Hot 100. Other Epik High songs that topped both of these charts are Love Story in 2017 and It's Cold in 2012.
