About this Event
Loretta works across media: painting, filmmaking, installation and curation, with a passionate focus on the eclectic spirit and energy of fearless game changers. She is Executive Producer and Producer of the Sony Pictures Classics released film, ‘Lambert & Stamp’ about aspiring filmmakers Kit Lambert & Chris Stamp, the propulsive management duo behind legendary rock band THE WHO. Following its Sundance Film Festival premiere and international theatrical release, the film has distributed in over sixty countries and currently streams through outlets Netflix, iTunes, Starz and Amazon Prime.
In celebration of Women’s History Month 2019, her interactive installation WOMEN WHO ROCK ! appeared in the heart of Times Square NYC on twelve viewer prompted LED screens spanning the exterior 42nd Street façade of the New York Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT). Featuring renowned photography of iconic musical artists Cher, Joni Mitchell and Tina Turner, viewers were invited to pan, scan, paint and animate into her designed digital sequences.
Employing filmic methods and a Pop sensibility, Harms works circuitous routes within painting, drawing, printmaking and digital manipulation to produce images and projections often enticing viewers into performative roles of tracking or splicing into unfolding narratives. She has recently returned to print media, working by hand and translating layered imagery into large format silkscreens in a confluence of abstraction and Pop.
Loretta is a graduate of Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She is the recipient of the Traveling Scholars Award and the Kate Morse and Clarissa Bartlett scholarships in the Fine Arts. Her work has been exhibited at the MFA Boston, BMoCA, Kunsthalle Munich, Boston Center for the Arts, in solo and group shows, private and institutional collections.

Artist Statement:
Every driver has a favorite track … Buckle up for a show at the nexus of self expression and movement. Interdisciplinary artist Loretta Harms returns to the EPIC Hotel as an artist in residence following curatorial stints in Kimpton’s grand lobby during past Miami /Art Basel art weeks. On view at EPIC are a series of silkscreen prints and paintings echoing the raw emotion and emblematic pace of women drivers on track and placing at podiums around the globe. Harms’ painterly techniques combine with mechanical print methods employing brush, pen, photographic and digital processes, repeat patterning and gestural embellishment. Conjuring a pop sensibility stoked with underlying meaning, she references commercial advertising and branded sponsorship imbued with a Mod mystique to create hybridized pictorial reliefs and vivid color schemes and enigmatic narratives. Video loops and sculptural elements round out the show. Come celebrate the grit, complexity and boundless spirit of women making their mark.
