Ensemble Unknown is a jazz quintet inspired by the spiritual independence of Strata-East and the visionary artistry of
Stanley Cowell, Woody Shaw, & Charles Tolliver.
Their music explores themes of loss & melancholy, transforming introspection into striking, lyrical melodies.
Singing horn lines float over rich harmonies while a tightly unified rhythm section delivers a deep, undeniable groove. The bass and drums lock in with warmth and drive, grounding the music in motion and soul.
Ensemble Unknown balances beauty and strength, honouring adventurous jazz traditions while crafting a sound that feels intimate, searching, and alive.
