Ensemble led by Alan George: Mozart's Gran Partita and Beethoven's Octet
About this Event
Mozart’s Serenade for 13 instruments is one of his most generous and captivating works, full of graceful melodies, sparkling instrumental conversations and moments of extraordinary warmth. Beethoven’s Octet, written when he was still in his twenties before studying with Haydn, is lighter in spirit but reveals the energy and individuality of his musical voice.
The players are conducted by Alan George, a founder member of the Fitzwilliam String Quartet in 1968, whose distinguished career has given him an exceptional understanding of chamber music and its traditions. His experience as both performer and musical director brings a particular authority and insight to these two works.
