ENLIGHTENMENT Music: Spring Awakening - A Cello Recital by Annie Yeh

Hi there, it’s Vanessa, your ENLIGHTENMENT salon host.

Spring has sprung! So I’ve invited my friend and versatile cellist Annie Yeh to take the train from Berkeley and help us celebrate this time of trees leafing and flowers blossoming with an hour of cello music celebrating Spring

Annie’s program weaves together tradition and innovation, blending timeless melodies and vibrant sounds from around the world, from a garden-inspired song by Bach to the Chinese folk tune “Flowing Stream.” Experience beauty and depth through the voice of the cello as we welcome the renewal and hope of spring. 

ANNIE’S BIO:
Raised in New York and Philadelphia, began studying piano at age six before discovering her passion for the cello at thirteen. She earned a Masters in Cello Performance from Ohio University on a full fellowship and studied with esteemed teachers at the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Aspen Music Festival.

Previously, Annie was Associate Principal Cellist of the Huntington Symphony/Chamber Orchestra and taught cello in the Bay Area for over a decade. She also explored jazz, releasing her album Something New.

In 2019, Annie formed two string ensembles—The Intarsia Trio and Duo Viello—featuring rotating string players. Her active YouTube channel, Annie Yeh Music, showcases her long-term project of recording all the Bach chorales for four cellos. She maintains a busy performance schedule, appearing in solo and chamber music settings, monthly mini livestream concerts, and events for the Bay Area Music Circle, UC Berkeley, and local community venues. She is also the founder of Legato Cello Yoga, a distinctive blend of Hatha yoga and live cello, guiding participants through movement and deep relaxation.

Annie also holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania (B.A. in Asian Studies and Pre-Medicine) and UC Berkeley (Masters in Information). Beyond music, she finds joy in teaching yoga, hiking, knitting, and savoring great food—all while being lovingly supervised by her two cats, Pepper and Wilson.
