Tom Amessé was a beloved caller at CDNY for more than 20 years. Tom’s personal warmth, jovial sense of humor, and delight in dance and the dancing community helped invigorate CDNY’s English events and drew dozens of newcomers to English country dancing, many of whom have now been avid participants for years. A consummate showman, Tom embodied both charm and a self-deprecating sense of humor, which belied how seriously he honed his skills as a caller. Friends and communities across the country responded, with accolades and invitations to call their special events. We will miss Tom and the unique vision he brought to the dance form we all love. Calling by: Val Medve
Val is Tom and Susan’s dear friend from Vermont and an acclaimed traveling dance leader. Val is known for her selection of both vintage and new English country dances. Her calling style is clear, easy to follow, and laced with good humor. Val's interest in dance began with Polish folk dancing when she was a young girl in southwestern Connecticut.

**Covid Safety**
Starting this season, we are no longer requiring proof of vaccination because of the evolving nature of vaccines, combined with the logistical hurdle of monitoring vaccination status at the door. We highly encourage everyone to get vaccinated and stay up to date on their boosters. Getting the latest booster is one of the best ways to protect yourself from serious illness and to help keep your communities safe.
We are continually monitoring the status of COVID in NYC. In order to accommodate differing risk tolerances among our membership, we are alternating Mask Optional and Mask Required events. Please check the Season Calendar’s details on cdny.org, where masking requirements are spelled out on a per-event basis.
Please don’t attend if you feel sick or if you were in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID within the past week. If you do test positive for COVID within a week of attending one of our dances, please let us know by emailing [email protected].
By attending our events in person, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to infectious disease and waive all potential claims against CDNY, its officers, and volunteers relating to such risks.
