About this Event
Engaging with Vulnerable Populations
Communication, Safety & Professional Response
Security professionals regularly encounter individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, substance-related impairment, and other circumstances that may influence their behaviour.
How we approach these interactions can make the difference between a peaceful resolution and an escalating situation.
This 2-hour, instructor-led Security Responder course provides practical strategies to help security professionals recognize challenging behaviours, communicate effectively, maintain professional boundaries, and respond safely and respectfully.
What You'll Learn
- Understanding Behaviour: Recognize how stress, trauma, unmet needs, and other factors can influence behaviour.
- Effective Communication: Apply empathy, active listening, and verbal de-escalation techniques.
- Recognizing Warning Signs: Identify behaviours that may indicate increasing agitation or potential aggression.
- Professional Boundaries: Understand the importance of legal authority, human rights, and maintaining personal safety.
- Responding Appropriately: Know when to engage, disengage, request assistance, or contact emergency services.
- Documentation & Coordination: Learn how to record interactions objectively and work with police, emergency responders, and community resources.
Practical, Scenario-Based Training
This isn't just a classroom presentation.
Participants will work through realistic situations involving condominium buildings, commercial properties, and public-facing security assignments.
