About this Event
This training is designed to provide professionals with the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to effectively engage system-involved fathers. Participants will learn about the common challenges faced by system-involved fathers, barriers to father engagement, the impact of lack of father involvement on children, and effective strategies for outreach and recruitment. Participants will also learn how to build trust with fathers and families, communicate effectively with fathers, empower fathers to be involved in their children's lives, and identify and connect fathers with resources and support. Case studies and success stories of effective father engagement programs will be discussed, and participants will have the opportunity to develop an action plan for improving father engagement in their own programs. The material is in PowerPoint presentation, short video clips, group discussion, breakout discussions (small group), and participant workbook (handout).
Learning Objectives
· By the end of the training, participants will be able to demonstrate effective strategies for addressing barriers to father engagement, as evidenced by their ability to propose at least two solutions to common barriers in a group activity.
· By the end of the training, participants will develop at least two effective strategies for building trust with fathers and families, as evidenced by their contribution to a group discussion and action plan development.
· By the end of the training, participants will develop skills in effective collaboration and partnership-building with community organizations, as demonstrated through their ability to identify and establish at least one potential partnership opportunity during a brainstorming session.
Transfer of Learning Goals
· Participants will demonstrate an increased understanding of the importance of father involvement and the impact of lack of father engagement on children's well-being, as indicated by their ability to articulate key concepts during a post-training discussion.
· Participants will acquire practical skills in engaging system-involved fathers, such as effective communication, outreach, and empowerment strategies, as observed through their active participation in role-playing activities and group exercises.
Trainer Bio
Marya Wright, DSW MSW BSW, is a nationally recognized social worker, consultant, educator, and facilitator with extensive experience in organizational leadership, child welfare services, and curriculum development. As the President and CEO of Wright Community Services LLC, Dr. Wright is dedicated to empowering system-involved families through awareness, services, and education. She also provides consultation, training, and facilitation to agencies serving these communities.
