About this Event
Youth-Focused For-Purpose Communities of practice
Together 4 Youth and The Youth Impact Foundation are two collective organisations working in the youth mental health and wellbeing sector that combine to deliver a Community of Practice (CoP) to improve provider practice. Between them, they represent dozens of organisations that deliver mental health and wellbeing supports in schools, rangingfrom one-person startups to well established and large organisations, including not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises.
Engaging schools effectively
The better a provider can understand school realities and align their engagement accordingly, the more powerful the outcomes and success of the service being offered. This session will help you with practical school engagement, including school decision-making, how to reduce burden on schools, and present you work in ways that are credible, useful and easy for schools to act on.Join us for an In-person, interactive workshop with expert insights, peer exchange, and practical tools.

Session concepts
Concept 1: Key decision makers:
For the success of any engagement, you need the key decision maker onboard with your service right from the start. This person is different depending on whether you're engaging senior or primary schools, and you'll also need to take the existing wellbeing and counselling in-house support team on the journey too - if they exist - whether they are embedded in the school or sit separately to the core operations.
Concept 2: Build ongoing rapport
Repeated visits to the same school will have higher impact than single visits, because relationships built with staff and students over multiple sessions are far stronger than once-off visits. I.e., rapport matters as much as the content and subject matter, and the initial pitch and engagement. Build your engagement around a long-term view for better success.
Concept 3: Align your value proposition with the school
One size does not fit all. Separately to your work with the wellbeing, exec and ops teams in schools, research and due diligence on specific student-related school socio-economic standing, demographics and school settings are crucial for the success of any program, because these variables matter. Building your services to be adaptable matters.
