End of Season Celebration (From Weeds We Grow)
About this Event
In this end-of-season celebration, participants are invited to gather in community through spoken word poetry, teachings, ceremony, and song with Lindsey Lickers and Andrea Josic. Lead artist Lindsey Lickers, accompanied by Raiden (Adrien Levesque) and James Carpenter (Greycloud) will honour the experiences, themes, and relationships that have grown throughout the year while sharing teachings carried back from Sundance, and Andrea Josic will present spoken word poetry.
The celebration will include a traditional opening, offerings for the land, teachings, and songs that invite participants to reflect, celebrate community, and deepen their connection to the land and one another.
As this is an outdoor workshop, please be prepared to dress comfortably. All materials, light refreshments and snacks will be provided.
Note: While this is an all-ages event, children should not be left unattended and are to remain under the supervision of their caregivers at all times.

About the Artists:
Lindsey Lickers: Lindsey is an Onkwehon:we (Kanien’kéha)/ Anishinaabe (Ojibwe-Mississauga’s) artist and community developer originally from Six Nations of the Grand River with ancestral roots to the Mississauga’s of the Credit First Nation. She specializes in painting and beading as well as Indigenous arts and culture facilitation, governance, community and program development. Her traditional name is ‘Mushkiiki Nibi’, which translates to ‘Medicine Water’, she is turtle clan.
Andrea Josic: Andrea is a Bosnian-Canadian writer, poet, performer, journalist, and arts educator based in Mississauga. Her work bridges poetry, community care, and social advocacy through performances, workshops, and public art initiatives across Canada. A nationally award-winning spoken word artist and multiple-time poetry slam champion, their writing has been featured by organizations including the TTC, CBC Radio, Meridian Arts Centre, Aga Khan Museum, and This Magazine. Andrea’s work explores the intersections of girlhood, gender, sexuality, disability, survivorship, mental health, and diaspora with honesty, vulnerability, and strength. Through collaborations with schools, arts organizations, and community spaces, Andrea hopes to cultivate healing, belonging, and joy while creating opportunities for connection, reflection, and collective storytelling.
Raiden (Adrien Levesque), also known as White Bear Standing, is a Health Promoter at Anishnawbe Health Toronto with Cree, Dakota, French, and Irish heritage and roots in the Thunderbird Clan. Drawing from his lifelong connection to ceremony and spirituality, he supports community members by bridging western and traditional healing practices through mindfulness, emotional intelligence, and spiritual care.
James Carpenter (Greycloud): James is a recognized Indigenous Traditional Healer and Oshkabewis (Helper) with Anishnaabek/Mississauga, Chippewa, Oneida, and Cree ancestry. Rooted in Indigenous teachings, ceremony, and community care, James specializes in providing Traditional Healing Services and Sacred Indigenous Ceremonies for children, families, and communities. He continues to reclaim his Anishnaabek/Chipewyan and Cree languages while sharing teachings that foster healing, connection to the land, and cultural understanding.
About the Project:
From Weeds We Grow is an interdisciplinary public art community project that started in 2020 and explores Toronto’s Rexdale community’s relationship to the environment through the intersections of nature, art, and wellness. Since then, From Weeds We Grow has returned yearly, featuring diverse community-engaged activations from virtual walking tours, workshops, storytelling, and performances rooted in local parks (Rowntree Mills and Panorama Park).
How to Find Us:
This workshop is happening in person in Rowntree Mills Park (155 Rowntree Mill Rd, North York, ON M9L 2K1) just off the end of Rowntree Mills Road near the Humber River, by Picnic Area 1. Look for the STEPS signs and creative staff!
