About this Event

"I've taken several classes through the years with similar content, and found this was four hours well-spent. This course took the best bits from 'dealing with difficult customers', mental health first aid, behavioral threat assessment and crisis intervention curriculum, and wove it into a useful workshop." Participant, March 2024 class.

Have you ever been challenged by talking to a person who seems angry, irrational, or threatening? How do we engage challenging people and determine whether they may pose a threat?

St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral, in partnership with the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas, is offering this free training for anyone who works or volunteers in any public-facing position (such as ushers/greeters, security/shomrim, or social workers). All are welcome to attend.

This training will feature a brief overview of the threat facing faith-based organizations and then allow participants to break into small groups to learn de-escalation skills. The small groups will be lead by professional coaches and feature professional actors who have years of experience acting as people in some form of crisis. The training is led by the Minnesota Crisis Intervention Team, which has trained hundreds of public safety professionals in de-escalating situations with people in crisis.
