About this Event
Michele Thrane will be showing you a printmaking process using encaustic paints to create monotype prints. Encaustic paints are made with heated beeswax, pigment, and damar resin. An overview of her process includes: a Roland HOTBox (which is an anodized aluminum plate with a heat source underneath), paints, and a variety of tools to manipulate the molten paint as well as safety tips. She will be making samples using different papers and attendees will have a chance to try the tools. There won’t be enough time to create any finished pieces.
Michele Thrane is a printmaker and mixed media artist with a BFA from Ohio State University, where she focused on printmaking and painting. She has been printing with encaustic for about twenty years, creating stand alone encaustic monotypes as well as prints as part of mixed media work. Her work is shown nationally and in private collections.
